Today we leave

After several months of planning the day to leave has arrived.

We probably will not have internet access during the safari so check back around March 11 when we get back into town.

Yesterday the high temperature in Minnesota was about 15 F. We expect the temperature in Africa to be around 85 F. Only 70 degrees different.

Leaving in a snowstorm

Last year we went to Bolivia. While we sat in the airport it started
to snow. There were several inches before we left.

We might not have snow at the airport, but it snowed all afternoon.
We will only see snow on Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa.

Test email posting

I am supposed to be able to post via sending email. Better check that
out before we go.

Finish touches

As a technology guy I am making sure everything works.

I created a photo album to post my pictures to. It wasn't showing the details for the photos (ISO, f stop, etc) so I changed the theme and you can now see that information.

I got a second camera from my nephew and made sure I could copy the pictures from it. I also got it packed in my camera bag.

I added the temperature display to the right side of the blog. You can click on the image to get more information.

Everyone is packing

Luckily you don't need the same clothes in Africa that you wear in Minnesota in the winter. You can pretty much pack everything ahead of time.

We should be ready by the time Saturday rolls around and we board the plane.

Started packing

I borrowed a bag from my brother and started putting things in it. It will be quite full.

We start taking our Malaria medication tomorrow.

Have all the visas

I picked up the passports today. We just got the Kenyan visas. They came back much quicker than their website said they would. The only reason I had sent them to the Kenyan embassy was because we got them back from the Tanzanian embassy in one week. It only took about 14 days for the Kenyan visas.

Today I also mailed off the final payment for the trip.
