Travel to rural Bolivia (part 2)

We had our first full night's sleep in Kari. In the morning we helped clean the school rooms. Some of the older students were also helping. They did not seem to know the finer details of window washing. But that is because they don't have much practice.

Gary and I got to install some shower curtains in the community/school showers. After lunch we installed some streamers in the class rooms. I brought them with us. They were in the colors of the flag of Bolivia: yellow, green, and red. We draped them round the chalk boards.

In the afternoon I napped. Robin went on a walk. She found a woman who was weaving on a loom that was on the ground. I was walking back to our room and came across several people butchering some goats in the courtyard behind our building. These were for the festivities of the school opening the next day.

At about 5 PM the rest of the group arrived from the other villages. They had seen two school openings that morning. Robin and I walked out to the village cemetary. We are trying to walk a little so we are not shocked when we get to Machu Picchu.

This morning we were dignitaries at the school opening. They just added 4 rooms, a toilet/shower room, and two teachers living quarters. There were several speeches. We all got wreathes of leaves and fruit drapped around our necks. We all had brought art supplies and we gave them to some students and teachers. There were several dances, and the teachers sang. Robin and I got to help pull the ribbon on the commemorative plack. We then passed out T-shirts to the kids and they got their picture taken.

We had to leave quickly because we had an 8 hour drive. It was just as lovely on the way back.

We took showers and went to dinner. Tomorrow we get to explore Cochabama a bit.
