Our journey to rural Boliva (part 1)

On Wednesday morning (5:30 AM) we started our 8 hour drive to the village we were going to stay at. The terrain was beautiful. A lot like Wyoming, rolling grass covered mountains. The roads were paved and quite good.

We saw herds of sheep and llamas. We even saw a few flamingos.

As I assume it is in many latin America countries we saw many people walking along the roads.

We ate lunch in a small grove of eucalyptus trees. Right behind us was a huge tailings pile from some mining operation. This was by the town of Llallagua.

At some point we got to the town we split off the main road. It became dirt and round around the mountain. For a dirt road it was pretty good. The buses even take it.

A group of 5 of us turistas and 2 of the staff went to one town and the others went to two other towns. We got there around 4 PM. It was a small town called Kari. We saw the clinc there and went to work. Gary and I put together bags for the kids. They had a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a towel, and a roll of toilet paper. The women put up curtains in new teacher rooms (we did not assign our own jobs). The town does not have electricity so we set up our beds in the teacher quarters in the dark. We had a simple dinner and went to bed. We slept in.

I will write more about this latter. A shower awaits me.
